In 2019, James Mitchell, a legal expert, and Joseph Bisaillon, a software development specialist, combined their experience and knowledge to establish eNotaryLog. Three years later, the company is a leading legal tech firm in the emerging remote online notarization (RON) space. The founders were inspired to start eNotaryLog by their experience of trying to schedule a notary for documents belonging to a terminally-ill friend. Despite their efforts, finding a notary took days. They were dismayed by the difficult process and knew it shouldn’t be such a hassle during an already difficult time.

Naturally curious, both Mitchell and Bisaillon started mulling over ways to make the notarization processes convenient and seamless and were excited to learn that Florida had just enacted a new RON law. Their goal was to develop a secure, easy-to-use notary solution by leveraging their combined law and software development expertise. The duo triumphed and positioned eNotaryLog to provide convenient online access to a notary platform anywhere, anytime.

“We offer industry-leading RON and eSignature solutions via our cloud-based MISMO-certified and SOC 2 compliant digital services platform,” Mitchell, co-founder and CEO, stated. In addition, eNotaryLog took a unique approach and had leading global law firm DLA Piper review and audit the platform. “Receiving third-party review by fintech advising firm DLA Piper provides our clients additional validation of the security and convenience of our platform,” Mitchell continued.

eNotaryLog’s uniqueness lies in offering online notarization solutions that address the challenges around the most complex notary transactions. The company’s platform encompasses intuitive dashboards and customized tools to assist businesses, law firms, and organizations with an end-to-end RON process. Corporate clients can use it to simplify their workflow and handle the most complex signings, even those involving foreign signers or hospitalized individuals. Law firms and title companies often have to navigate the complexities of using multiple portals to complete one transaction, which drainsresources and time. In response, eNotaryLog’s single sign-on solutions can reduce the manual processes and eliminate the need for multiple portals. The platform also helps identify the prerequisites for completing online notarizations according to each state’s laws and the commissioning state of the notary.

With its business operations built around customercentricity, eNotaryLog offers two distinctive onboarding methods.

First, clients can quickly onboard their in-house notaries onto the eNotaryLog platform, with which they will meet the requirements for an online notary in their commissioned state. This includes a notaries’ electronic seal or eSeal and their digital certificate. eNotaryLog then creates a notary profile on its platform and gives them access to the dashboard, which allows them to create, prepare, and execute online notary sessions for their company and its clients. eNotaryLog’s client success team provides extensive training and regular account management to ensure clients are ready to undertake notary sessions.
Secondly, clients can leverage the expertise of eNotaryLog’s in-house notaries to execute notary sessions. The company creates an organization profile for the customer and gives them access to a dashboard to upload documents and submit them for eNotaryLog to execute. eNotaryLog clients can use their own notaries, eNotaryLog notaries, or a combination to meet their company’s notarization needs. Notaries access their eJournal within the platform for real-time digital documentation of notary transactions.

eNotaryLog’s platform employs a stringent identity proofing process to help notaries serve as impartial third parties to validate the credibility of a signer. This includes credential analysis, where identification documents are captured and verified, which checks IDs against security features by leveraging computer vision, AI, and compliant machine learning. It also employs knowledge-based authentication questions to verify the signer further.

Following the verification process, the signer can connect to the notary session and view the document and any changes made in real-time. They also have access to an audio-video feed with the notary. This feed is recorded and maintained for a minimum of 10 years (in accordance with state requirements). eNotaryLog has audit trails and additional security features to seal the document with an identity-based digital certificate (x.509 tamper-evident certificate). These security features authenticate the digital signature and electronic notary seal while preventing tampering with documents giving the client and signer confidence in the security and validity of the online notarization.

eNotaryLog also offers an innovative eSignature solution that provides flexibility for users. The company delivers white-labeling functionality and embedded technology to customize the eSignature tool and applies it to RON and the overall platform.

A goal for eNotaryLog is to continue to expand its outreach throughout the U.S., with RON available in nearly every state. There are ongoing legislative efforts in the remaining non-RON states. “We are both a digital technology leader in remote online notarization and a resource provider, focusing on maintaining close connections with small businesses, enterprise organizations, attorneys and law firms to innovate digital document solutions to streamline their businesses,” Joe Bisaillon, chief strategy officer and co-founder, said. “We continue to implement features based on our clients’ feedback to further enable secure digital documentation and seamless workflows,” Bisaillon concluded.
